I am a semi-retired CPA who has been enjoying photography for many years. My current passion is photographing birds. This intense interest in birds started about five years ago after joining the local bird club in our Del Webb Sun City retirement community in Lincoln, CA. We have six national wildlife refuges located within 75 minutes from Lincoln. The abundance and great variety of birds in the area makes this an ideal place to live to enjoy our many feathered friends.
The Trip of a Lifetime for me was my five hour journey to Hallo Bay, Katmai National Park, Alaska completed on July 20, 2013 with Emerald Air Services of Homer, Alaska. We arrived by sea plane from Homer about 75 minutes away. Our Guide, Sarah Elg, led us on this trip in the Bear's environment getting us within 20 feet of the bears. We had no weapons or bear spray. However, we had Sarah and were able to see many bears including several playful cubs.
My primary camera is a Nikon D300 with a Nikon 80-400 mm VR lens. Whenever possible I use a Manfrotto monopod to help stabilize my shots. My backup camera is a Nikon D7100.
